Questions to ask a software engineering partner

Good delivery begins with shared understanding of the problem.

Ask about discovery

How will the team validate assumptions and define the first useful release? Ask for an example of a scope they changed after learning more.

Ask about ownership

Who makes architecture and product decisions? What will be documented? How does the team handle code review, testing, deployment, and handoff?

Ask for relevant proof

Look for an honest explanation of constraints, tradeoffs, and the team’s exact role. Outcomes and references matter more than a long logo list.

Discuss the working rhythm

Agree on communication, time-zone overlap, milestones, access, and escalation. These details affect the product as much as the chosen framework.
